Lost/Perdida

Lost/Perdida is a double-sided book that explores the complexities of the first-generation American Latino experience. Printed on transparent film and bound with a vibrant red coil, its English content is presented in red ink, while the Spanish content is cyan. Each side has its own content, reflecting my qualms with each part of my identity: American and Latina. When viewed through 3D glasses, readers can choose which side to explore, each offering candid reflections on the struggles of navigating cultural identity. You'll find imagery from my childhood and questions I've had throughout my life within its pages. When viewed holistically, the content may appear challenging to read, reflecting the struggle inherent in overlapping identities. This intentional design choice mirrors the complexities of first-generation American Latinos, where blending cultures and identities can sometimes feel disjointed or off-putting. In both languages, I share insights into the challenges of feeling American enough while honoring my Latina heritage.
