NASA Disasters
2025
The NASA Disasters Program advances science and builds tools to help communities make informed decisions for disaster planning. By providing accessible satellite data and geospatial tools, the program reduces disaster impacts, supports response, and strengthens resilience alongside response partners and local networks.
We partnered with the NASA Disasters team to build an identity that communicates the science behind their work, the diversity of hazards they address, and the role communities can play in shaping their own resilience. The logo draws from the visual language of interferometric patterns generated by satellite radars to reveal shifts in the Earth’s surface, signaling when a hazard may be emerging. Paired with the silhouette of a figure in a proactive stance, it bridges scientific insight with human agency, symbolizing that science, when in the hands of communities, becomes a tool for safety and collective strength.
From this foundation, the identity extends into a flexible system designed to be utilized across field materials, digital platforms, and collaboration environments. The color palette builds from the official NASA Blue, introducing bright, energetic tones that reflect the progress and urgency of the program. As well as create a functional framework for differentiating subprograms and guiding partners through complex information. We have designed a series of illustrated patterns inspired by environmental hazards, from rippling lines that evoke floodwaters to tumbling forms that echo landslides. Moving beyond imagery of communities in crisis, these illustrations symbolize the proactive work of risk reduction and the tools that help prevent future disasters. Together, these elements form a scalable visual language that adapts across various contexts, from community education to response
